Leadership means never forgetting who one is leading and why. As a leader many attributes are necessary, but one that I keep in the forefront of all actions and decisions is that of service. Leaders must serve with integrity, compassion, and grit. As a leader in CCSD, I owe my success to the students, teachers, and families I serve. The insurmountable amount of support and trust that is expressed to me has enabled me to grow as a leader. As an ever learning leader in CCSD, I am faithful to my purpose to serve and will continue to empower our most important leaders- our students.

Leadership in CCSD is an opportunity to create and foster change for all students. As a leader, you are the voice and advocate for the academic, social and emotional, and developmental needs of your students. A leader in Charleston County has the power to have a positive impact on each student’s life as we pave the way to create authentic, genuine experiences that prepare our student for successful futures.

Leadership in CCSD to me is opening doors of opportunity for educators and students to allow for growth to reach potential, while also building a foundational support system to encourage each other. Understanding potential is not an easy climb, but rather a difficult leap that allows for and supports failure in order to promote overall growth.

I’m thankful for the opportunity CCSD has given me to learn and grow as a leader who sees issues from multiple vantage points. Meeting and interacting with administrators and district leaders has helped me acquire a broader understanding of community needs, solutions to challenges in my school, and positive relationships with dedicated educators.

Being a Servant Leader means that you lead by example, you are the lead learner, and you are the coach that helps everyone around you be the best they can be. Whether you are talking about teachers, students, or parents, the leader takes a role that encourages and supports, but at the same time holds people accountable for the work that has to be done. Above all else, the leader believes in the vision and mission and knows that every person they support can achieve at high levels with the right supports in place.
